Sons of Anarchy Season 1 DVD box set became available 18 Aug 2009.
I remember when The Sopranos was on HBO before it became a massive hit--in other words as it was building it's following to unprecedented-for-HBO audience numbers. Some potential
viewers were resistant to watching it because it was 'about gangsters' or 'the mob', it was ''too violent and there were no big stars in the cast, to mention a few commonly cited reasons for never having watched the show but still offering an opinion that it was bad in some way.
Once many people actually started watching the premium cable 'The Sopranos' and came to appreciate all the rest of the show which subtracting 'the violence' and the overly-simplistic summery that it was 'about the mob,' you still have 80% of the story being about the characters and the story with story setting really crucial--perhaps serving as a as core characteristic--but not the only one.
Sons of Anarchy on FX (Fox Network - 'without the box'), now finishing up it's sophomore season is exactly like the Sopranos--and nothing like them. Very different setting and tone and distinctly unique, well-drawn characters.
You have to jump back to Season 1, Episode 8, I'm told if you want to 'get' SOA but don't have time to watch Season One SOA in its entirety. I still must catch up on much of Season 1 of SOA myself. I'm inclined to lean toward feeling that one should I watch all of Season 2 before going into three, eight months from now.
The season finale of 2 --surprisingly to me, felt a bit anti-climatic--and even a bit forced in places. Not true of 99% of the show that I've seen. Also, its pretty much a certainty that it will come together in a mind-blowing way when we finally reach the beginning of S3 of SOA.
For now, a long, dry period.
Time for me to catch up on Sons of Anarchy, Season One!

Spartacus: Blood and Sand is described by Starz as an Action-Adventure Drama.
Lucy Lawless is Lucretia, who along with her husband Batiatus, own the Ludus (a gladiator camp) – as well as Spartacus. The couple has fallen on hard times financially and has bought Spartacus hoping his fighting prowess will help them regain their status in the brutal world of gladiatorial contests. Among her many roles, Lawless is best known for portraying Xena: Warrior Princess in the long-running global hit series, and has appeared in SCI FI Channel’s critically acclaimed Battlestar Galactica.
This is a tasteful collection with some nudes, mostly photography, many magazine scans including the 10.09 Maxim shoot with Grace Park as well as Tricia's Playboy shoot.
In re:True Blood - Alan Ball - "One thing that was unexpected from the successful first season was the real-life romance that developed between stars Paquin and Moyers. While tabloids would probably be pleased to report dismay from the casts and crew, Ball expressed only the positive in how the relationship has impacted the show. Of his two leads, Ball said, "They are such consummate professionals, both of them, that it doesn't effect filming whatsoever. It only effects filming in the sense that they're incredibly comfortable with each other and that really translates to the screen and I'm really happy for both of them. They're both terrific people. They really found somebody that they really want to be with and there's nothing negative about it."
In fact, Ball talked about a particular scene in last night's episode that had even surprised him when he saw the finished scene. "On the page it said 'Sookie and Bill make love' and then I saw the dailies and I saw the scenes cut together - I wasn't there when they shot it and I just kind of went 'Wow, okay.' I love it and I think that's what part of the appeal of the show is. I don't think we do anything gratuitously but it's important to the show that between Sookie and Bill there is this incredible erotic chemistry. These are two people who thought they had no chance to ever have a real love affair and they found each other and there's something fantastic and mind-blowing about that." --

Sookie and Bill ~
E4 - Fourth Man in the Fire, E6 - Cold Ground
Please DO NOT CLICK this link unless you are over 17. Within are screen caps from two episodes from the HBO series, "True Blood." They include the first time Sookie and Bill made love in his house in front of the fire, and the second time in the dirt in his family's cemetery plot where he's been sleeping.
This set focuses mostly on Tara's birthday party with all of the NSFW shots (as I don't want to get booted from my free hosting spot by posting them there, plus some photos are leading up to or almost inappropriate for under age 17--I have to use my paid blogging account).
What's here is the party as it progresses though I may have to tweak it some. Eggs and Tara as they progressively...disrobe and Eggs' backside is seen. (Tara) Rutina Wesley was shy.
Sam and the mysterious, back-scratched Daphne had some touchy-feely moments as well. Arlene (Merlotte's waitress) and Terry Bellefluer, (part-time Merlotte's cook) seemed to act less sexual and more like they had eaten some magic mushrooms.
It's been a month-plus since Sookie killed Arlene's fiance Rene, though even without the magic of Maryann, Arlene and Terry were getting ready to hook up. They are the most chaste couple here.
When the True Blood actors were queried about Season 2 prior to it starting, several of them spoke of the writer's amping things up. Sam Trammell (Sam Merlotte) expressed shock at how far out the story is going and he's been in the business for some time (he did not say that. Look at his bio. Actually most actors on this show have a thick, solid resume).
Much of the mad or orgy-type behaviour like the eating of dirt spells descending into near-madness (at least temporarily) and is going to continue SPOILER through the last episode, sustaining a fever pitch until, based on the photos I've seen of "Bon Temps"/ Clinton, LA, everyone is just going to "explode" as Maryann exits (though I have no information at all of Maryann's fate--just guessing).
Images belong to HBO. True-Blood.net made the screen caps for which I am grateful. I did a bit of tweaking of the images to bring out detail.
"Believe it or not, the show is sexier and gorier," Ball said about the new crop of episodes. "I think it's also funnier. I think it's also deeper. I just feel like the show is really finding its identity and delving into itself in a way that feels really organic. It definitely feels as if things are ramped up for season two."--Alan Ball http://thefutoncritic.com
*Updated* 6.10.09 TV Guide photo shoot!
Just released to Spoiler TV (6.5.09) from HBO these are high res POSTER-size images of the starring cast of HBO's True Blood - Season 2
The series follows Sookie Stackhouse, a barmaid living in Louisiana who can read people's minds, and how her life is turned upside down when the Vampire Bill, walks into her place of employment two years after vampires 'came out of the coffin' on national television.
AIRDATE JUNE 28TH 2009: When Sookie is attacked by a mysterious creature, Bill must enlist Eric's help to save her. At the Light of Day retreat, Jason has second thoughts about the sect's anti-vampire agenda, but Sarah and Steve counter his doubts with flattery and promises. After snapping at Tara and new employee Daphne, Sam decides to cut and run. A bored Jessica heads over to Merlotte's, where a smitten Hoyt falls under her spell. At another Maryann hosted party, Tara finds her attraction to Eggs interrupted by a swirling, aphrodisiac fog.
TRUE BLOOD - SX2E3 'Scratches' -
Marianne's Party - featuring the "giant Paul Bunyan m-fin' pig," Det. Andy Bellefleur, Marianne(at her best), Marianne's manservant Karl, Tara and Eggs, Jane Bodehouse and a mutually horny, middle-aged dude, many revelers--most who chose to disrobe in some fashion and many who show their love for one another unabashedly. Maryann has helpfully aided them in shedding their inhibitions. Why she needs to ply them with weed and booze is sort of mystifying as that soup Karl is ladelling out looks like its doing the job quite well.
From what I read, this is Marianne just getting warmed up.

Godric (Allan Hyde), Eric's (Alexander Skarsgård) 2000 y.o. maker has grown weary of existing. He no longer thinks like a vampire and he wishes to meet the sunrise.
Sookie (Anna Paquin) stays with him until the end.
Its sad.
The romantic drama really begins now for Eric and Sookie (post-bullet sucking him). He was "a monster" to her before. Now she's comforting him. And there's more tangible comfort in store for them both. ;)
If you felt nothing for Eric previously, you will see him do an 180° turn as a character. Very fun to watch to watch an Eric that is totally alien to us. That Bon Temps-redneck limb-tearing he did in his basement? It kinda put him in a Hannibal Lector mindset for me. Too dangerous to be a great replacement for Bill, but he and Sookie look great together and *SPOILER* Bill will deserve it.
Sorry, the photos are _exactly_ backwards.
TypePad has the clunkiest blog-photo integration!
And I've really tried. It's totally unchanged since 2003!
Just made public shots of the set of HBO's series, True Blood.
These are neat because they really give you an appreciation for the detail that went into the set of HBO's sexy, violent vampire southern Gothic tale, originally conceived by Charlaine Harris for her "Sookie Stackhouse" series of southern Gothic vampire novels.
