Episode 3x07 "Easy As Pie"

Miguel offers Dexter a new potential victim, but after properly vetting her, Dexter isn’t sure she fits the Code. When he informs Miguel of this, he reacts with anger, making Dexter believe the new friendship is in danger. An old sickly friend of Dexter’s, Camilla, reinforces this idea, when she asks Dexter to help end her life, insisting she would never ask a friend to do something against his conscience. Meanwhile, Rita finds out that Sylvia is beginning to suspect her husband, Miguel, is having an affair. Debra ends up revealing to Anton that he is being used as bait to lure the Skinner, forcing her to find new way to find the Skinner. As a result, Anton realizes Debra cares for him more than he thought.

The dance between Dexter and Miguel Prado continues though with a welcome a sub-plot involving the loyal/helpful PD records lady Camilla (Margo Martindale), literally taking her last gasps of life but keeping Dexter hopping in the search for "the perfect Key Lime Pie." There was a break in the overall fever pitch of the screen time between between Miguel and Dex and I'm glad because Jimmy Smits is playing this role very intensely. Gave the audience a little breather--some room to exhale.

Dex continued to fret about their relationship, though--mostly whether if he (Dexter) was doing the right thing, behaving like a friend would. Ultimately, Miguel overstepped in asking Dex to snuff the pesky Ellen Wolf (Anne Ramsay) an outspoken and unconventional public defender. It turned out Ramon's beef with Wolf is purely a clash of egos and Dexter simply tells Miguel "no," she's just doing her job and doesn't meet Dexter's criteria for murder. Though Miguel becomes enraged it is in keeping with his behaviour of late (Sylvia wonders to Rita if Miguel might be having an affair) and he later apologizes to Dex when it appears Wolf has "done the right thing" in capturing one of her scum-ball clients.

Miguel is ready to get his "hands dirty" as Dexter should not have to do all the "heavy lifting."

Miguel brings Dexter another “project,” but this time he wants to get his hands dirty. Dexter realizes it’s time to teach Miguel the Code – for his own safety as well as Miguel’s. As Dexter walks Miguel through the process, Dexter both struggles with, and enjoys, letting Miguel into his private world so completely. But Dexter doesn’t realize that this has only whetted Miguel’s appetite. Rita finds herself losing control because of the pregnancy. She becomes worried that Dexter may get fed up with her. Because of her hard work, Debra finds herself one step closer to catching the Skinner. But after she finds out a secret about her new boyfriend, Anton, he disappears on her.
